Connie Lapetina Siewert

My work is considered to be outsider art. At first, I was very offended with this moniker; however, I have come to embrace it as it clearly defines who I am and choose to be. My art is as I am: naïve; on the outside, flashy; but, that covers up the hidden commentary of how I view the world around me.

I am, if nothing else, a communicator. My son has said “mom, you could talk the ear off a flea.” Because of this, I try to contain my message within the confines of the canvas. But, like Stephen King my brush can be verbose. My acrylic work is colorfully piled high as I am fond of depth and texture. This is because I have very poor eyesight. Most of the acrylic pieces are stories that require explanation. My copper etchings are mostly floral. I needed to add a monochromatic scheme and realistic floral to offset my colorful use of acrylics and because I am a gardener of over 30 years.

My view of the world as depicted in my acrylics has been influenced by my reading and by my life experiences. The most notable authors being: Jules Verne, Ray Bradbury, Carolyn Keene, Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, Robert Ludlum, Stephen King, Louis L’Amour and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Science Fiction, Action, Adventure, Mystery, and Romance: these are the stuff of life!

My work is signed using my maiden and married name together to avoid any confusion because there are other Connie Siewerts out there. Contact me at mommyfingers29@yahoo.com with your questions or comments.
