Roger
Shule
Roger
Shule has been an art educator for 34 years and recognized as an
artistically gifted person since early childhood. The bulk of his
work is representational and executed in a variety of mediums.
Shule's
subject matter consists of barns, farm scenes, vacation locations,
local scenes, and floral arrangements.
Roger
says of his work, "My grandparents lived on a farm and many
of my uncles were farmers. For me, the attraction of old barns and
farms is the unalterable fact that they are disappearing from the
land. Nostalgia is as good of a reason to commit an image to canvas
as any other reason. The camera may capture images far more accurately
than I can, but for me, photographs do not create the same emotional
connection as my painting."
Shule's
ceramics pieces are a new venture created from a love of calligraphy.
He has been combining calligraphy with clay to create platters with
insightful messages. Some are humorous, some serious, and all of
them have been fun to make.
Roger
Shule is President of Antioch Fine Arts Foundation.
