Bernita's passion is travel and her oil paintings reflect many places and scenes from around the United States and a large number of foreign countries. She finds inspiration in nature as well as the peoples of the world. She uses bright colors which tend to indicate joy and optimism.

Her paintings have also been displayed and sold through Oak Park Art League and Northfield Emporium in Northfield, Minnesota.
